東京オリンピックが、開催されている真っ最中です。オリンピック大会は、「東京」と言う、都市から隔絶された世界だ。大きな混乱も無く、次々と選手が、喜び、時に悔しく、5年と言う歳月と共に、世界のトップアスリート競い合っている。とても、その姿は、頼もしい。
その選手達が、珍しく思い、色んなハプニングが起きた物がある。段ボールでできたベッドです。これは、恵まれ無い日本だから、できた「段ボールベッド」です。選手村にあるような、特別な物では無い。
日本には、数々の災害があります。今回のオリンピック開催がきっかけは、東日本大震災だった。これは、2011年3月11日、日本の東北地方太平洋沖地震によって、福島原子力発電所が地震によって、大きな災害を受け、大津波、火災によって多大な人命が失われ、行方不明者合わせて、22,000人。
何もかも無くした人々は、避難所で、ただ呆然としていた。心に大きな傷を負った人々も多い。何も無かった。それまで、日本は、災害のある度に、避難所に、粗末な、寝具と共に眠ることのできないことが、多かった。
だから、日本はこの「段ボールベッド」が開発されました。そうして、東日本大震災で、この「段ボールベッド」が使われました。何もかも無くした人々が、この「段ボールベッド」によって、身も心も、疲れ切った身体を避難所で、横たわって、身体を休めていました。
そう、たった1つの贅沢な家具だったのです。何も無いからこそ、生まれた「段ボールベッド」です。だから、日本は、東京オリンピックで、この福島で使われた、「段ボールベッド」を東京オリンピックの選手村で使いました。何も無い、日本だから、できた「段ボールベッド」でした。
このベッドは、多くの人々を救ってきました。毎日、ベッドで寝ることもできず、何もかも無くした人々にとって、このベッドは、本当に最高なベッドです。今、私達は、当たり前に思っていることが、そうではないことが、多くあります。
だから、「段ボールベッド」は、そんな人々の思いが込められて、いることを知って欲しい。この願いが、世界に届きますように。東京オリンピックの思い出と共に、皆さまに、語り継がれることを願います。
