The work of Paul Klee (1879-1940) that impressed me most was “Super Chess” (produced in 1937).

At first glance, modern art feels very inorganic. However, this is a painting drawn in a straight line on a flat printed matter, this charm is very difficult to convey.

Because there is only limited space.

Traditional paintings, such as people and landscape paintings, have a fascinating kind of “sweet” charm called “curves,” which are bewitchingly fascinating.

However, modern art is drawn by a very stoic method of making paintings without using that method. It’s very difficult, and with its limited expressiveness, I’m impressed with the choice and production of this painting.

Therefore, there is a secret that you cannot understand without seeing the actual painting. It also includes people who do not understand even if they see it. That is why I feel that “modern art,” which dares to use methods that are difficult to choose, is wonderful.

This “super chess” is also very skillful in color usage. The colors of the pieces are blue and red. The surrounding color is purple. This is the color you get by mixing the blue and red colors. On this board, we compose a scene where we mix and fight with each other.

Then, the pieces that have momentum and the pieces that do not have skillfully express their superiority and inferiority with only straight lines. On the board, the traces of the pieces are skillfully imprinted and expressed, and the board is colored like a secret.

This expressiveness is extremely outstanding, yet the handwriting remains sharp enough to help decipher the secret.

Therefore, the tension on this board cannot be transmitted without seeing the real thing.

In this way, the building that Klee loved is not completed immediately, and I feel the power to build it up. It looks like a simple square building, but it is certainly a building that has been piled up with great effort and skill.

It is believed that Klee, who was influenced in this way, reworked the splendor of this building as a painting “in his own way” and greatly completed the technique.

He felt that his best work, a dynamic representation of the building, was “super chess.”

It is a pity that the goodness of this “super chess” cannot be easily conveyed in printed matter. This cannot be understood without the sensibilities of seeing the real thing and feeling its goodness.

In fact, most of the people other than me left without stopping when they saw the real thing.

I spent tens of minutes in front of this painting, and it was a very exciting work that I was interested in.

I feel that this tendency can be said for all modern art.

If you have a chance, please take an interest in this “super chess” and watch it. This time, I wrote that the field of modern art was born with a very profound sense of history, and that the work is very delicate.
