この作品は、「ムーラン・ド・ラ・ギャレットの舞踏会」(制作年1876年)の作品で、印象派として、最も評価された作品のひとつです。当時、写真技術のない時代において、このような人々を情景として残すのは、難しいからです。この絵画は、ルノワールを印象派として認知するのに、充分な作品です。
