ピーテル・パウル・ルーベンス(1577-1640)は、バロック画家と言われています。
バロックと言えば、私は、バロック音楽を思い出す。あの、重厚な音色を出す、パイプオルガンは、とても精巧で、今も、その音色は、心に響くものがある。
バロック音楽は、1600-1750年までの150年間を言う。又、バロック建築物として、ベルサイユ宮殿があります。
この建築物もとても重厚な、歴史的建築物です。そんな時代を駆け抜けていったのが、ルーベンスだった。
1600年にイタリアで、マントヴァ公ビィンチェンツオ1世・コンサーガの宮殿に仕えた。ルーベンスは、この時に絵画に影響を受けた。1606年にサンタ・マリア・イン・ヴァリチェッラ聖堂の祭壇画制作の依頼を受けています。
その時に、デッサンを残しています。それは、今も現存しています。教会という、大きなところの祭壇画は、とても、見られやすくしなければ、ならない。
描いた完成作品は、教会に一度は、載せられました。ですが、教会という空間で、反射した光でその祭壇画は、鮮明に見えなかったので、描き直したものが、今は、現存しています。
祭壇画は、時に、全ての人々に見せるために、あえて、鮮明に描かれています。色彩のついたデッサン画の「ヴァリチェッラの聖母」(1608)は、とても、優雅で、そして、天使達も、まろやかな雰囲気です。
デッサン画でありながら、1枚の絵画として、十分に堪能できるのは、ルーベンスの多彩な才能を持っていたことを証明するものです。そのデッサン画は素晴らしいです。
時に、宗教画は、戒めもあるので、残酷なシーンも多い。
「聖母被昇天」(1625-1626)に描かれた天国に登っていくマリアさまも、油絵で描かれたものと祭壇画では、色使いが違います。
祭壇画は、色のコントラストをはっきりとさせ、全ての人々に見えるようにされ、油絵は、繊細に描かれています。このように才能あふれるルーベンスでした。
名作「フランダースの犬」の主人公が見たかったのが、ルーベンスの絵画でした。今回は、ルーベンスの祭壇画について書いてみました。

Altarpieces are sometimes dared to be vividly drawn to show to all. The colorful drawing “The Virgin of Valicella” (1608)is very elegant and the angels have a mellow atmosphere.
Even though it is a drawing, being able to fully enjoy it as a single painting proves that Rubens had a variety of talents. The drawing is wonderful.
Sometimes religious paintings have commandments, so there are many cruel scenes.
Maria, who climbs to heaven depicted in “Assumption of the Virgin” (1625-1626), also uses different colors in the oil painting and the altarpiece.
The altarpieces have a clear color contrast and are visible to all, and the oil paintings are delicately drawn. It was Rubens full of talent like this.
