滋賀県にある比叡山に三宝莚（サンポウエン）という、お寺があります。天台宗派です。この天台宗は、非常に苦しい修行が行われることで、有名です。三宝莚の住職は、栢木寛照（カヤキカンショウ）です。
この方は、もう、20年前にお会いした時に、すでに25年間、小学生の中高学年から中学生、高校生を対象に、新聞などで、公募して、約1,500-2,000人の中から、40-50人の子供を作文で選んでいます。
そうして、太平洋戦争で、多くの日本人が、亡くなったサイパンへ慰霊の旅に行って、後世にその平和を願うと共に、戦争を２度と起こしてはいけない、という強い信念のもと、子供たちを連れて行きます。それは、毎年、夏に行っています。
もう、随分前ですが、私の子供が、作文を書いて応募しました。そうして、その中で、選ばれて、このサイパンの慰霊の旅に行きました。
その前に、講義があり、色んなことを学びました。私の子供に、般若心経を暗唱できるまで、何度も教えて下さりました。だから、私の子供は、般若心経を暗記しています。
三宝莚は、決して、素晴らしい外観ではありません。心のこもったお寺です。お寺を建てるとき、土台ができましたが、建物を建てるときに、業者からお金を持ち逃げされました。だから、私が行った時は、プレハブでした。
山から湧き出る水で、筆を濯ぎ、質素なお寺でした。
そうして、三宝莚の名前の由来が、三つの宝、国師（正しい学問、正しい知識を持っていること）、国用（正しい行動、人のためになることをすること）、国宝（正しい学問、正しい行いのできる人）このような三つの宝をたたみのような１枚の「ござ」の上でも、一生懸命すれば、国宝のような人物になれる、との信念が込められています。
私の子供は、サイパンの慰霊の旅に行きました。サイパンの小学校で、寝泊まりをしました。そこで、驚いたことは、シャワーの水が、海水だったことです。勿論、衛生状態も良くなく、ゴキブリや色んな虫が出ます。
その質素な暮らしを通じて、自然のありがたさや、平和であることの素晴らしさを感じます。
玉砕、つまり、自ら死を選び、岸壁から、多くの日本人が飛び込んだとされる海岸に、日本で、作った精霊流しをしました。そうして、みんなで、般若心経を唱え、心から、たくさんの命を弔いました。子供ながらに、今の日本は、恵まれていると感じ、普通であることが、実は、世界から見れば、日本は、恵まれていることに、気付いたのです。
そうして、私の子供は大学生になると、一人で、マザーテレサの家に行きました。そこで、色んなことを学びたかったそうで、自分一人、インドの会社の飛行機に乗り、一人で旅立ちました。
そこでは、親に捨てられた手足のない赤ちゃんがいたそうです。そんな赤ちゃんのおむつを替えたり、素手で、床の掃除をしました。
だから、私の子供は、今の同世代で、汚いものを触れない人や、不都合なことに対して、知らないふりをする若者が多いことに、ひどく怒っていた時がありました。
自分が、ごく自然に生まれたことを、当たり前に思っていたり、恵まれた環境にいることを忘れ、自分の立場が、周りからすると、非常に、不幸に見えたりすることがあります。
しかし、それは、ごく狭い視野で見ているからです。私は、子供の幼少期から、ご飯1粒も残さないように、言いました。
その時、世界の中には、毎日の食事も満足にできずに、死んでいく子供がいる話をしました。それに、ご飯１粒でも、これは、１年かかって出来た食べ物だから、大切にしなさい。と言いました。
けれども、今の日本は、食品ロスで、まだ食べられる食品が、捨てられます。これは、非常に、良くないことです。世界的に見れば、これは、贅沢すぎます。だから、自分の今置かれている立場を、大きな目線で見れるようになって欲しいと感じることが、よくあります。
これは、豊か、という定義を知らなすぎると思うからです。生まれ出る国によって、貧富の差があります。けれども、それは、選ぶことはできません。
私たちにできることは、経済を通して、その国が自立できることを支援することだと思います。寄付は、その時だけで、効果は、限定的です。その国を自立できるよう、企業がその国を発展させることが、大事です。
話は戻りますが、三宝莚の栢木寛照和尚から、ローマ法王と握手した年賀状が送られてきました。長年に渡って平和活動をしたことが、世界に伝わったのでしょう。
三宝莚は、プレハブのお寺から、始まっています。見かけは、関係ありません。その、信念が、行動を起こし、あきらめず、決して、欲に囚われることなく、命の大切さ、と平和の大切さ、を後世に伝える活動をしてきました。
そうして、世界の中には、恵まれない人々がいることを長い活動を続けられたことは、非常に素晴らしい、と思います。
世界が平和になりますように。

Before that, there was a lecture and I learned a lot. He taught my child many times until he could recite the Heart Sutra. So my child memorizes the Heart Sutra.
Sanpoen is by no means a wonderful appearance. It is a hearty temple. When I built the temple, I had a foundation, but when I built the building, I ran away with money from the contractor. So when I went, it was a prefab.
It was a simple temple, rinsing the brush with the water that springs from the mountains.
Then, the origin of the name of Sanpoen is three treasures, national treasure (correct learning, having correct knowledge), national treasure (correct action, doing what is good for people), national treasure (correct). (People who can study and do the right thing) The belief is that even on a single “goza” that looks like a fold of these three treasures, if you do your best, you can become a person like a national treasure. ..
My child went on a memorial trip to Saipan. I stayed overnight at an elementary school in Saipan. What surprised me was that the shower water was seawater. Of course, the hygiene is not good, and cockroaches and various insects appear.
Through that simple life, I feel the gratitude of nature and the splendor of being peaceful.
Breaking the jade, that is, choosing to die on his own, from the quay to the beach where many Japanese are said to have jumped in, the spirits that were made in Japan were poured. Then, we all chanted the Heart Sutra and sincerely mourned a lot of lives. As a child, I felt that Japan is blessed now, and I realized that it is normal, but in fact, from the perspective of the world, Japan is blessed.
Then, when my child became a college student, she went to Mother Teresa’s house by herself. There, she wanted to learn a lot, so she took an airplane from an Indian company and set out on her own.
There was a baby with no limbs abandoned by his parents. My child changed the baby’s diaper and cleaned the floor with my child bare hands.
So, my child was once terribly angry at the fact that many of her generation now are young people who don’t touch dirty things and pretend they don’t know about inconveniences.
Sometimes you take it for granted that you were born naturally, or forget that you are in a privileged environment, and your position may look very unhappy to those around you.
But that’s because we’re looking at it in a very narrow field of view. From my childhood, I told him not to leave a grain of rice.
At that time, I talked about the fact that there are children in the world who are dying because they are not satisfied with their daily meals. Besides, even one grain of rice is a food that took a year to make, so please take good care of it. said.
However, in Japan today, food that is still edible is thrown away due to food loss. This is very bad. Globally, this is too luxurious. Therefore, I often want to be able to see my current position from a big perspective.
This is because I think I don’t know too much about the definition of rich. There is a difference between rich and poor depending on the country of birth. But it cannot be chosen.
I think what we can do is to support the country’s independence through the economy. Donations are made only then, and the effect is limited. It is important for companies to develop the country so that it can become independent.
Returning to the story, Kansho Kayaki of Sanpoen sent a New Year’s card with a handshake with the Pope. It must have been transmitted to the world that he had been engaged in peace activities for many years.
Sanpoen begins in a prefabricated temple. The appearance doesn’t matter. That belief has taken action, never gave up, never been trapped in greed, and has been working to convey the importance of life and the importance of peace to posterity.
And I think it’s wonderful to have been able to continue working for a long time because there are disadvantaged people in the world.
Kansho Kayaki has published a book. It is Tokuma Bunko, “If parents grow up, children grow up.”
