北海道は、開拓によって開かれた大地です。
その心は、大きな目標を成し遂げて今の北海道があります。
クラーク博士の言葉は、これからの未来のある若者に目標を持って生きることの素晴らしさを教え子との別れの時に、告げた言葉です。
それは、大きな大地の歴史と未来のある若者の人生を重ね、どんなに困難があっても、くじけることなく、目標を忘れずにいることは、大切です。
これは、達成された時は、大きな大地を見れば、素晴らしいことだと、物語っています。
不幸にも、それは、全ての人が、ゴールに行けるとは、約束はありませんが、努力は、必ず、色んな形で、素晴らしいことを多くの大地のめぐみが、教えています。
目標を持つこと、それは、大きな成長になる、原動力です。
成長を忘れることなく、常に身近な目標をひとつひとつ、積み重ねることが、最も、大切な事です。
それは、振り返ってみた時に、それは、目標を持つことの大切さ、がわかるでしょう。
このように日本の北の大地、北海道は、「開拓精神」これを語らずに歴史は、語れません。
クラーク像は、北海道にいくつかあります。

ウィリアム.スミス.クラーク氏は、1876年日本に来ました。
札幌農学校教頭に就任後、キリスト教信仰に基づく教育は、内村鑑三、新渡戸稲造らの学生に深い感化を及ぼしました。
1826〜1886年。
人種、国を超えて、今なお、尊敬されています。
