織田信長が天下統一を目の前にして築いた城。1576年にできた城。標高199mの安土山に作られました。現在は、干拓によって陸地ですが、当時は、お堀の代わりに、琵琶湖の内湖（伊庭内湖、常楽湖）に囲まれていました。南側だけが陸続きでした。
